Mostly Candid Photos of Guys

I have kicked off a new gallery tonight since the "People and Portraits" gallery is starting to get a bit full. This photo of a guy in a Western hat was snagged at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. It was a few years ago so in the days when I was shooting in small jpg files so it's got its flaws, but in a way lends itself to working with since a bit of graininess adds something to the scene in this case I think. I did a few different interpretations; I kind of like the muted toned ones and when done like that the graininess seems to contribute something to the "antiqued" quality of the photo. I don't know if you agreee or not? Let me know what you think with a comment below.

Photos of Cats I Have Met or Crossed Paths With

Cat and Scotch on the RocksCats make good subjects for photographs. First of all they are generally pretty cute characters, but also because they make great models in that they will generally stay still long enough for you to get a good photo. Dogs and kids are another story, of course!

Over the years I have snapped a few "moggy portraits"; some of cats belonging to friends and neighbors, and others of those that you encounter when you're out and about

Landscape with Barbed-Wire

Landscape photo with barbed wireI took this photo on a trip to New Zealand in 2007 in the Southland region between Te Anau and Queenstown. I like the way the photo is framed in the foreground by the barbed-wire fence. It adds interest and a little shock-value. It was early autumn in this alpine region that has hot dry summers so the grass was dry and golden much like it gets here in California. The clouds are interesting too; notice how they seem to be closing in on a vanishing point in the center of the photo. All in all it was a lucky setup.

See it in the Artistic Landscapes gallery.
